Proposal

Romantic love is best described as a physical attraction. It is love that is full of exaggerated emotional and sexual desires. It’s a sexual love that tries to go beyond the realms of physical appearance, but for the most part it does not. RenĂ© Girard, a French philosopher, came up with a theory called the theory of mimetic desire. A theory that states that romantic attraction arises primarily in the observed attraction between two others. I have observed a couple of couples in order to distinguish the difference between lovers who are truly in love and couples with one member that shares an unrequited love for their mate, but is not reciprocated. Throughout my research I have tried to compare romantic love to other forms of love, and the only other form of love that seems to appear more in my experiences is Plutonic, and shared between friends. With my projects I plan to construct mini narratives displaying these two forms of love. I plan on using after effect’s parenting tools to form movable 2d cut out characters to display the despair, agony, and euphoria that comes with being in love.

I feel strongly about this topic because people have approached me with their romantic problems, and I have never been able to express how I truly felt when it came to the subject. This was mainly because I observed their relationship and realize that it was destined to fail. Now I know a lot of the secrets that were never revealed in their relationship, and coincidentally am blamed for their downfalls. I have also helped patch a relationship back together.

1 paragraph

I have chosen to work with the idea of Romantic love, and the ideas/notions that come with it. Throughout my life i have been a quiet observer of relationships, and the complexities that come with what is known as one of the strongest emotions on earth.  Given what i have witness, i believe that love is nothing more than a romantic notion. Its like a spell that is hard to get over. Throughout this course i want to focus on the idea of love in the sense of romantic love. With this subject i plan to draw ideas from Mythology, and instances experienced from my own life.

Summer ideas

this summer i worked on narrations that featured the idea of romantic love.
Illustrations that featured  couples  infatuated with each other, but are not necessarily in love. The ideals that were described were true to life, because the characters were based off of real disfunction-al couples, and couples that seem to be soulmate.
